Big Rapids will have to go after its first victory this week after suffering a 32-18 high school football loss to Reed City in Friday's season opener.

Big Rapids will have to go after its first victory this week after suffering a 32-18 high school football loss to Reed City.

The Cardinals trailed 24-6 at halftime in a game that was delayed for an hour with lightning strikes.

Joe Martinez had a 10-yard touchdown run for the Cardinals to open the game.

In the second half, the Cardinals netted touchdown runs from Nick Baldwin of 12 yards and Derrick Defever of 1.

Baldwin led Big Rapids with 89 yards rushing on nine carries while Defever added 76 yards on 21 carries and Jordan Straub added 28 yards. Defever had a run of 47 yards.

Robby Gilbert caught one pass for seven yards for the Cardinals.
