The young but talented Everett football team sent message that it is going to be a team to contend with this season as it opened the 2011 campaign with a 41-13 win against Waverly.

The Vikings displayed a proficient air attack led by quarterback Lucas Barner who completed 15-of-22 passes for 161 yards and four touchdowns.

Junior standout Jaleel Canty was also key in the passing game as he hauled in seven passes for 69 yards and three touchdowns. Canty also added a 64-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. Canty scored three touchdowns during the fourth quarter as Everett blew the game open.

Everett led the game 21-7 at halftime. Barner and Canty opened the scoring in the first half with a 24-yard scoring strike. Barner then connected with Javon Moore on a 44-yard scoring strike in the second quarter and Anthony White reeled off a 25-yard touchdown run.

Moore finished the game with five catches for 90 yards while White added 41 yards rushing.

Everett junior linebacker James Mills paced the defense with nine tackles and a pair of assists.
