A 54-7 victory for Ithaca against Merrill last Friday makes one wonder.

Can anyone stop the Yellowjackets?

Coach Terry Hessbrook’s Jackets improved to 4-0 and will go for the automatic playoff spot this weekend when it plays Michigan Lutheran Seminary.

After five weeks, Ithaca has outscored its opponents 243-41.

Against Merrill, Ithaca led 20-0 after the first quarter and 47-0 at halftime.

Travis Smith was 9-of-13 for 235 yards and three touchdowns. Smith also led the team in rushing for 73 yards while Jacob Barnes gained 46 yards on two attempts including a 41-yard run. Jared Evers caught four passes for 81 yards  including a 48-yarder.

Defensively, Garrett Miniard led Ithaca with 13 tackles. Lucas Slater added 11 tackles.

Slater leads the team for the season with 41 tackles. Luke Bunting has four interceptions.
