No matter if it’s running the football or catching passes, Greenville’s Chris Mickey is always looking for ways to help his team.
Mickey and his teammates put the sting on Grand Rapids Union September 17, as the Yellow Jackets defeated the Red Hawks 49-18.
Colt Harrington got the scoring started early, scoring the first touchdown of the night after Bradley Gilbert blocked the Red Hawks first punt of the game.  The Yellow Jackets stung early and often in the first quarter, scoring 21 points in under seven minutes.
Greenville also forced eight fumbles and recovered three of them.
Leading the offense was Chris Mickey, who had an outstanding night scoring three touchdowns and rushing for 124 yards on 16 carries.  He also caught two passes for 57 yards.
“It felt great to have a night like that, but it wouldn’t have happened without my entire team doing their job,” said Mickey. “My outlook going into every game is to give it my best.  If that involves scoring three touchdowns, or blocking down field, or tackling, I just need to know I gave it my best.  I don’t go into a game saying tonight I’m going to score three touchdowns; I go into every game saying tonight I’m going to give it my best and leave it all out on the field.” he said.
Helping Greenville on the ground was Miguel Nieto, who rushed for 55 yards and two touchdowns.  Curtis Heppe passed for 79 yards and two touchdowns.
Mickey says teamwork and unity are the key for Greenville.
“We are a close-knit team, and together, if we work hard I don’t see anything getting in our way of us making our goals,” said Mickey. “We just take one game at a time and put all of our effort into every game and every opponent.”
