Michael King plays running back and outside linebacker and is having a banner season for Vestaburg’s football team.

He moved up to varsity for occasional games as a freshman and as a sophomore. This year, he missed the opener against Breckenridge with an injury, but he came off that quite well, as whenever he touched the ball the next two games, amazing things happened. He had only three carries against Onekama and gained 73 yards in a Wolverine win.

In the team’s win over Baldwin, he had 116 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries.

The key behind that is definitely the line,” he said. “Without them, I’m going nowhere,” he said. As a running back, strengths for King have included “hitting the hole hard and I’m fast enough to run to the outside. I need to work on hitting the hole more than trying to bounce outside.”

Vestaburg started out with a 2-1 record.

Since the Breckenridge loss in the opener, “we’ve played good ball,” King said. “We’ve especially stopped giving up the big play.”
