Belding’s football season is over at 7-4 after Friday’s 35-17 loss at Comstock Park. Belding had Comstock Park on the ropes in the second half of Friday’s Division 4 district championship football game.

“They’re a very good program,” said Belding coach Joe Schwander. “I don’t know where we’re at yet as a program. We feel like we can compete. We grinded it out the whole game, that was the plan. They made some plays, we didn’t and it got away from us.”

The Redskins were down 14-7 at halftime. On the second play, running back Neil McCully stormed 71 yards for the touchdown and Belding tied the game.

Comstock Park fumbled on its next drive and the Redskins drove to set up a 21-yard field goal by Chris Ornelas to take a 17-14 lead.

But CP scored 21 uncontested points.

Belding fumbled twice in the fourth quarter and the Panthers took advantage both times with TDs.
