Lansing Waverly lost 48-20 to Lansing Catholic on Thursday in the season opener for both teams. Joe Schwartz led Waverly with 227 yards passing and two touchdowns. He had a 23-yard pass in the first quarter to Kyle Tackett and a 2-yard pass to Austin Edwards for six. Tackett had a 56-yard punt return for six points.
