Hey Sports Fans. It’s another great day at Sports Scene.

The football playoffs are in full swing and Ford Field is just around the corner. A couple quick observations about the first week of the playoffs. Ithaca won its 66th straight game, for the 10th-longest streak ever in the the country. Amazing…Simply Amazing…Good job boys! Keep up the good work.

When the playoff brackets were first announced, I have to admit that I wasn’t too happy to see that Lansing Sexton and Swan Valley would likely be squaring off in a district final game. How could the MHSAA put such a big game so early in the playoffs? I know you have to win the first one, but I don’t think anyone expected either the Vikings or the Big Reds to lose. Now that the big game is upon us, I just think whoever wins that game will likely represent the bottom half of the bracket en route to Ford Field and the Division 4 final. Also, if you haven’t had the opportunity to watch Swan Valley’s Alex Grace, go watch this kid. He’s definitely worth the price of admission.

Also, a big shout out to all of the local cross country teams that won state titles, including both the boys’ and girls’ teams from Beal City, the girls’ team from Ithaca, and the Rockford boys’ squad. Coach Gene Lebron has done a tremendous job coaching the young women at Ithaca, and to see them walk away as state champions is truly an honor. Great job to all of the individual runners who earned All-State honors.

Lastly, a wise man once said that with hard work and dedication comes results. I truly believe no matter what life throws at you, just keep working. Good things happen to those who wait.
