Decision time is just around the corner for Alma’s Dylan Carl.

If Carl elects to take advantage of the early signing period, he can do so in the middle of October. However, it is also an option to wait until the spring.

But whenever he decides, his college of choice will be getting a very versatile 6’10” big man who has a tremendous upside.

“Right now, Dylan is weighing all his options,” said Alma boys’ basketball coach J.T. Cleveland. “I think if he feels really comfortable with a school after he does his visits, he could sign this fall, but more likely that he will wait till after our season to sort everything out.”

Currently the University of Detroit Mercy and Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne have made formal offers. However, Cornell University, Marist College, Youngstown State University, United States Military Academy, Kennesaw State University, and Western Michigan University have all expressed serious interest in the last couple weeks.

Cleveland said that two coaches from the above-mentioned schools told him that they don’t make offers until a recruit has visited. Carl will be making a few recruiting trips this fall.

“I don’t have a gut feeling about where he will choose,” Cleveland said. “We have had some great conversations. Dylan is incredibly intelligent. He is looking at the entire package – academics, basketball program, campus, support systems, coaches, food, and housing. He wants to be sure that it is the right fit for him. Wherever he goes, that school and basketball program will be lucky to have him.”

Green brothers lighting up links

Alma brothers Jay and Bret Green have helped put the Tiffin University golf program on the map. A year ago, Tiffin won the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Association for the first time ever.

The Green brothers have picked up this season where they left off last year. They recently helped the Dragons finish 11th of 22 schools at the NCAA DII National Preview held at Green Valley Ranch Golf Club in Denver, Colorado.

The DII Preview hosted many of the country’s top-25 teams, including seven of the top 10. California State University, Chico won the event with an 844, followed by Barry University at 857.

Tiffin finished with an 882.

Sophomore Jay Green was the top Tiffin finisher, placing 20th with a 216 total. He opened with 73, shot 75 in round two, and blistered the course for a 68 on the final day. His -4 on the final round finished him at even par for the tournament.

Bret Green fired a three-day total of 223.

Catlin honored

Aubree Catlin was recently honored by the Kiwanis Club of Alma as the organization’s September Athlete of the Month.

She plans to attend Central Michigan University and major in chemistry with a pre-dental focus and then attend dental school at the University of Detroit Mercy.
