Laingsburg setter having huge season

Kennedy Franks, of Laingsburg, has established herself, as one of the area’s best setters, and for good reason.

Franks is in her senior season with the Laingsburg volleyball team. She’s had two full seasons with the team as a setter. Since sixth grade, Franks has been a setter. She got encouragement and assistance from her coach to perform in that position.

She indicated she’s having her best year as a setter.

“I didn’t set as much last year because we had our other setter,” Franks said. “But I think I’ve improved a lot from last year to this year.”

To be successful as a setter, “you have to not listen and let all the hitters get into your heads when they yell at you,” Franks said. “You just keep trying to keep focusing and keep playing.”

Franks takes pride in the technique aspect of her hitting.

“I think I do pretty well at it,” Franks said. “The hitters are all different.”

Franks enjoys the challenges of being a setter.

“I’m kind of like the leader as a setter and you get the ball a lot,” she said.

Franks has played no small role in helping her Laingsburg team have a successful season so far.

“We took second at the Birch Run tournament,” Franks said. “We lost to Dow in the finals. They’re a very good team.”

The final weeks of the volleyball ball season are coming up but Franks is convinced her team can keep doing very well.

“We can accomplish anything we want our minds too,” Franks said. “We just take each game one at a time. We’ll do very good this season, I feel.”

Franks also plays basketball. Between the two sports, Franks indicated that volleyball might be her best.

Looking ahead, Franks hasn’t made a decision yet on pursuing a college career.

“I haven’t decided on that, but probably not,” she said.
