LOWELL – One of the premier freshmen wrestlers in the state this season, Austin Boone of Lowell wrapped up his first season of high school wrestling in a big way as he won the 135-pound title in Division 2.
Boone defeated another standout freshman, Josh Edmond of Orchard Lake St. Mary 6-3 in the finals. Edmond entered the match with a 53-0 record.
“I just wanted to come out and take it to him,” Boone said. “I went out there and went as hard as I could and tried to score as much as I could. It feels great.”
Boone wrapped up his season with a 40-3 record and was a conference, district and regional champion.
