Alma defeated Ionia 34-20 in the season football opener for both teams on Friday. Brec Alward had touchdowns runs of 61 and 18 yards in the first quarter and a 7-yard pass from Drew Humm in the second quarter for a 20-0 lead. Jaiden Garcia kicked two PATs. Alward also had scoring runs of 31 and 57 yards in the third quarter which ended with a 34-6 Alma lead. Alward rushed for 271 yards and caught two passes for 53 yards. Humm had 10 completions for 134 yards.
