Coach Kevin Townsend: Tonight emotions were running high as the Falcons took the Panthers of Standish Sterling. After a 3 and for the Panthers the Falcons were on the march. After an 8 play drive the Panthers came up with a huge hit and the Falcons fumbled the ball away with 10:24 to go in the first. The Panthers took advantage and 72 yards in only 6 plays and punched it in from 4 yards out. The PAT was good and the Panthers lead 7-0.

Both teams traded possession 4 times in the 2nd and the Standish Sterling took a 7-0 lead into the half.

In the 3rd quarter the Falcons got the ball 1st and went 11 plays 62 yards before coming up empty on the drive. Jaden DeBeau would come up with an interception for the Falcons, giving him 5 interceptions on the season. The 2pt run was no good and the lead was now 7-6.

In the 4th quarter Standish Sterling marched 69 yards on 12 plays and ran it in from 4 yards out. The PAT was good and with 6:59 to go in the game the Panthers had a 14-6 lead. With the wind to their backs the Panther kickoff was caught by Jack Townsend in the endzone and the Falcons would start on the 20 yard line. Ben Wellnitz hit Jack Townsend for an amazing shoestring catch on 4th down and hit Jay Bourcier on another 4th down catch to keep the drive alive. After a 13 play 4:28 drive Carston Yaw ran it in for the touchdown from 14 yards out. The Falcons needed the 2pt conversion to stay alive in the game and Carston Yaw came up big again. The Offensive line of Willem Short, John Guerra, Aaron Comstock, Joe Melzo, and Vinnie Kowalski did an amazing job of drive blocking on the tieing drive.

Standish Sterling would get the ball with 2:31 to go and the Falcon defense came up big and stopped them for a 3 and out. Freeland would take over on the 31 yard line with 1:30 to go and 1 timeout. After a 9 play drive the Falcons decided to play for overtime and punt the ball away on 4th down with 12 seconds to go. Jayce Bourcier hit a great punt down the left side of the field and a Standish Sterling player attempted to pick the ball up, but fumbled it. Ryan Quinnell jumped on the ball and the Falcons took over with 4.1 seconds left on the 25 yard line.

The Falcons would use their last timeout to talk about the potential game winning field goal. The boys were settled in and from the left hash into the wind, Jack Dreyer nailed the game winning 35 yard field goal as time expired giving the Falcons a 17-14 come from behind win.

“The were a lot of people helping us win this game tonight,” said Coach Kevin Townsend. The players had names on the back of their jersey for people who have lost the fight or have been/are affected by cancer.

“There are 30 kids on this team and they were 30 more people who helped us win this game tonight!!!!” It takes all 30 of our kids to make this win possible.

The Falcons are now 4-1 and travel to Bullock Creek next Friday.
