John Davis is Beal City’s softball coach and has a strong player in junior center fielder Sidney Upton

Coach Davis:

Sidney has already hit a grand slam in our opener this year. She is hitting over 500 this year. She also has great defense in the field.

She always gives 110% effort, willing to dive for the ball and go all out. She works a lot on her hitting too in the off season and during season to perfect her skill.

Well it’s still early but she is starting off strong and I know she worked hard this off season.

She seems to be seeing the ball better which will lead to her being more consistent at the plate.

She has hit a grand slam the first game of this year right after I told her she was going to hit one. Her freshman year on varsity a lot of the upper classman really took to her because they could see all the extra work she put in to play so well.

I expect her to be one of my top hitters and to hit more homeruns and be on base very often.

Sidney plays travel ball during the summer. She hits off the tee a lot with her dad and will go to the field with him to hit and catch balls. She also works in the barn a lot in the off season with me.

She’s a leader for the team with her positive attitude and work ethic.

The team is 1-1 so far this year and the starting line up is looking really good. If I would’ve played my starters both games we would’ve most likely won both but you need to see what you have when its early in the season.”
