Millington softball team defeats Escanaba
ESCANABA - Future Kent State Golden Flash pitcher, Gabbie Sherman (9-2) proved once again why she will be a Division 1 collegiate softball pitcher. In a weekend tournament in Michigan's Upper Penisula, Sherman struck out 31 batters in 14 innings of work allowing only two hits and not walking anyone in two shut out wins.
In a 3-0 win over the #1 ranked team in Division 2, Sherman struck out 15 Escanaba batters and allowed only one hit versus the 2018 state champions. In the Cardinals third game of the weekend, Sherman struck out 16 Marshall (WI) batters and allowed only one hit in the 10-0 mercy victory.
Madi Hahn and McKenna Slough led the team offensively versus Escanaba each picking up two hits. Slough had a double, run scored and an RBI. Darrien Roberts had Millington's fifth hit and added two RBIs.
Game two saw Sabrina Gates (8-0) enter the circle versus Gladstone. Gates struck out seven batters in her six innings of work in the Millington 13-3 victory.
Roberts, Leah Denome, and Sydney Bishop each had three hits to pace the Cardinals offensively. Denome had four RBIs and two doubles. Sherman, Hannah Rabideau, and Trinity Fessler each had two hits, while Hahn had one hit.
In game three versus Marshall, Roberts, Rabideau, and Slough each had two hits. Sherman, Bishop, and Hahn each had one hit. Roberts hit her 10th home run of the season and Hahn hit her 5th home run of the year.
Millington (19-2), currently ranked #1 in Division 3, will host Frankenmuth (17-5), currently honorable mention in Division 2 on Wednesday, May 15. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
