Portland traveled to Caledonia Monday to play in the Dobber Wenger Quad. This was the first time we’ve played in this event and we met some very tough competition. Allegan finished in the top 3 in the state in D4 last year. Byron Center is a top D2 team and Caledonia is a top D1 team. All of this showed in the scores. Portland had a few close matches and even managed to win a few. However, the competition proved to be to much for most of the day. The matches we did win were all in our doubles flights. Portland often struggles to get the top players in the state. But our line-up is consistent from top to bottom. This really helps us as we get to our doubles flights. The team has played a lot of matches in a row to start the season. Once we get a few more practices in the singles will also start improving. This team can be right back where we were at the end of last season pretty quickly.
