Freeland cross country coach George Drown expects a huge season from sophomore Whtney Farrell.

Coach Drown: Whitney was our No. 2 runner on our regional championship team last season. Her personal best time of 19:21 put her sixhth on our school’s top 10 record board. She is a competitor. She loves to win. Whitney enters every race with the intent to beat as many other runners as she can. Whitney is coming off of a good summer.  She’s put in more miles than her freshmen summer and we are hopeful that it will transition into a successful fall.

“Whitney has not only increased her mileage, but increased the quality of those miles she has put in. Whitney was first team all-conference, first team all-TVC, first team all-Saginaw County, and first team all region. I expect Whitney to continue to improve in the same areas she excelled in last season.  Whitney is also a great basketball player. She was able to balance basketball and cross-country obligations all summer. She did a great job handling both.

“As a freshmen Whitney played on the junior varsity team and was moved up to the Varsity squad for the playoff push which took them all the way to the state championship team. Whitney is very coachable.  She works hard and is a positive role model for the rest of her teammates.”
