Bay City Western won 52-48 over Midland on Friday.

Luke Gillis scored 17 points for BCW. Drew Barrie had 12 points for Midland.

BCW coach DeMario Walker:

“I am very proud of these boys! I know it’s early but these boys bounced back from our first game. I’m proud because if anyone would see how hard all 13 of our players work in practice they would feel the same! These boys deserve every win because how hard they prepare but they also know they have to earn it on their own. We were down 11 to 19 after the first quarter and then in the second quarter we were down 12 points. Going into half we were down 7. We made a few adjustments and from there we started executing our offense. Big spark from guys off the bench! Wyatt Reinhardt had a crucial 4 point for us in the first half that help cut into that 12 point lead Midland had.  Second half, our sophomore Luke Gillis started to play his game and finding his way with the team. Luke was huge impact tonight which he needed after the first game. I am very pleased with out PG Jack Fryzel, he got the players together on the floor and finally started to lead the team more. Same with Aaron Norfleet stepping in and leading some of our inexperienced players. Those two are vital to our team and their leadership alone will help us win more games! Our bench players all played a part in this win as well especially Lars Ridley, Tristian Brickel, Grant Horner. But we will celebrate our win tonight 52-48 and Sunday we will be back at. The players like to say “Sunday Funday” because it’s our hardest practice of the week.”
