Michigan Lutheran Seminary won its conference opener against Bullock Creek by the score of 55-44. MLS raced out to a 16-7 first quarter lead.  Bullock Creek slowly chipped away at the lead and had it down to four in the second quarter but the Cardinals put together a nice run at the end of the second quarter to get their lead back to nine going into halftime.  The Cardinals got a boost as A.J. Alcorn hit two big threes in the third quarter to stop the Lancers from cutting into the lead.  “We really needed those shots because our offense had stalled out a little.”

MLS hit six out of seven free throws late in the fourth to hold on for the win.  Bullock Creek’s Ian Bissell and Seth Bradford led all scorers with 16 pts each.  Bissell also went five for five from the line. A.J. Alcorn led MLS with 13 points, nine rebounds, and four assists.  Ethan Mayeda netted 11 points and dished out five assists for MLS, while Max Nordlie scored 10 points. Drew Reif had nine rebounds.

MLS coach Seth LeBair: “The guys played good team defense tonight and stayed focused even when we went through some struggles on the offensive end.  We’ve got a pretty deep team this year and I think our new guys will continue to contribute more as the year goes on.”
