Bay City Western wrestlers expect to be strong




Isaiah Thomas is Bay City Western's wrestling coach this season.

The Wrestling Team finished their season 14-7. This is the tenth straight season that the Warrior finished with double digit dual meet victories.

 At the conference meet they finished fifth with six athletes claiming all league honors (1st Place-Vic Schoenherr, Ben Harris, 2nd Place-Mark Bowker, 4th Place-Jacob Coffey, 5th Place-Bostyn Bowen,  Tyler Rytlewski).

 At Individual District hosted at Bay City Western Three Grappler’s punched their tickets to Regionals: Vic Schoenherr-1st, Ben Harris-1st, and Jacob Coffey-3rd.

 At the Individual Regional Two Grapplers punched their tickets to the Individual State Tournament: Vic Schoenherr-1st, and Ben Harris-2nd.

 At the State Meet Junior Vic Schoenherr capped a great senior season and career with a runnerup finish at the 145 Pound Division 1 Weight Class. Vic finished with 184 career victories, Two Saginaw Valley League, District, and Regional Titles to go along with three All State Finishes.

The Warriors return 21 of 25 starters heading into to the 2019-2020 season.

  1. Key Returners 

Ben Harris is a Junior and returning State Qualifier. Won forty plus matches last year en route to County and District titles.

Jacob Coffey is a Junior and a Two Time Regional Qualifier from last year. He won his first County Title last season.

Brock Niernberg is a Senior and also a Team Captain this year. He has won 60 matches in the past three years at the Varsity level.


  1. I expect us to be competitive in the area. We should be vying for County and District Titles. We have competitive athletes here that push each other in practice every single day.


  1. Chemistry. The athletes generally like each other. At lunch time they can be found sitting with each other. In practice they are always pushing eachother.


  1. Continue to work on the little things: Positioning and Mental Toughness.


  1. We are in the Saginaw Valley League which is one of the toughest conferences in the State. The leader of the Conference is Davison.
