Flint Powers hockey will be strong again

By John Raffel

Flint Powers Catholic is again expected to have a very formidable hockey team again this season.

Last year, coach Travis Perry’s team was 17-7-2 record and took second place in the SVL. Last year's captain was Luke Evo, and he is playing in the CCHL.

Key players will be Tim and Alex Washburn, Tyler Lawrence, Brent Zloto and Brennan Churchill.

It will be the same type of expectations: League title, regional title and a state championship.

“Strength will be goaltending and defense,” Perry said. “Goal scoring will be tough to come by, since we have a very young team as well with 10 underclassmen.

“It’s a tough conference,” Perry said. “Heritage and Dow are probably the favorites, hopefully we can surprise a few teams.”

League members are Flint Powers Catholic, Saginaw Heritage, Midland Dow, Midland, Mt. Pleasant, Davison, Bay City Central, Bay Area Thunder, Lapeer and Grand Blanc.
