St. Louis High School hosted the TriValley West at Pins in Ithaca on Saturday.

It was a big weekend for the Ithaca Yellowjacket boys bowling team.  Ithaca had 2 matches, 1 against co-conference leader St. Charles and 1 against Bullock Creek.

The 1st match against St. Charles was for the out right lead in the conference.  Both teams came in at 7-1.  St. Charles won the 1st meeting of the season based on total pins 2082-2081.  Saturday, Ithaca was looking to exact a little revenge and take control of the conference.  The Yellowjackets would jump out to a quick 4-0 lead in the 1st Baker game 167-156,  but St. Charles would answer in the 2nd 203-170 to take a 6-4 lead heading into the Peterson games.  Ithaca would win the 1st Peterson 954 – 866 to retake the lead 10-9 with 1 Peterson to go.  Ithaca was led by Riley Vernon, 248, Preston Pitcher, 226 and Logan Coleman 190.  In the 2nd Peterson Ithaca flexed its muscle, throwing their best game of the season and winning the game 1010 to St. Charles 821.  This gave Ithaca the match win 21-9.   Ithaca was led by an amazing 287 game by senior Preston Pitcher, a 211 by senior Logan Coleman and 185 by Junior Riley Vernon.

“This was a huge match for us today,” said Ithaca Head Coach Wally Schneider.  “We talked a lot the last couple weeks about finishing games, and putting teams away in the late frames.  We slipped a little at the end of the 1st Peterson and let a couple points get away, but the guys responded really well in the 2nd when i challenged them a little after that 1st game.  We have a couple kids that are just refusing to lose and really hitting their stride right now as we get closer to the post season.  Pitcher was the star today and the entire bowling center went silent when he headed into the 10th frame with a chance at a 300 game.  When he threw another perfect shot the 1st ball in the 10th, I thought he had a chance, he seemed pretty calm.  I think the nerves just got to him a little bit on the 2nd ball and he missed inside just a little bit and left 2 pins standing on the deck to finish with a 287.  Riley Vernon averaged 218 today and he and Pitcher are the top 2 averages in the league.”

In match 2, Ithaca felt a little bit of a let down after their big 1st match but were able to win both Bakers for a 10 point lead going into the Petersons with games of 179 and 160.  Ithaca would then struggle in the 1st Peterson and lost 812-835, but still led the race to 16 points 13-6.  In the 2nd Peterson, The Yellowjackets would once again bounce back and shot 965 to Bullock Creeks 838 to win the match 23-7.  Ithaca was led by Vernon, 224, Pitcher, 202 and Lucas Gruesbeck 215.
