Sanford Meridian kept its hopes alive of a Jack Pine Conference title with a 36-0 blanking of Beaverton on Friday night.

Meridian improved to 7-1 overall and 6-1 in the Jack Pine. The Mustangs play at Clare Friday against the 6-0 Pioneers in the regular season finale. A Mustang win would give Meridian a share of the title.

Sophomore quarterback Christian Petre was 5-of-14 in passing for 90 yards and two touchdowns while adding an 18-yard touchdown run for the Mustangs.

Jacob Wenzlick ran for 106 yards and two scores on 15 rushing attempts for the winners. Jess Leiver caught two passes for 29 yards and a score while Johnson snagged a 28-yard pass.

Levier sparked Meridian with nine tackles, one sack, one fumble recovery and one interception while Luis Korpal had two tackles,  and Cullen Deitrick added nine tackles in a solid Meridian defensive effort.
