HSSS FOOTBALL RANKINGS

Following are rankings of high school football teams in the High School Sports Scene Magazine primary coverage area.

 

DIVISION 1

DAVISON 2-0: Defending D1 state champs scoring points in bunches this season.

ROCKFORD 2-0: New coach Brent Cummings has the Rams off to a strong start in the post-Ralph Munger era.

GRAND LEDGE 1-1: Comet quarterback Logan Todd leads a potent passing game.

 

DIVISION 2

EAST LANSING 2-0: Talented Trojan team claimed an impressive win against defending D3 state champion River Rouge.

MIDLAND 2-0: Chemics are off to a fast start putting up 45 points per game.

LOWELL 2-0: Red Arrows look to be on the rebound highlighted by a win over long-time rival East Grand Rapids in season opener.

MIDLAND DOW 2-0: Charger offense is averaging 44 points per game.

 

DIVISION 3

DEWITT 2-0: Panther passing game is as dangerous as any in the state as evidenced in 64-38 win over Grand Ledge.

CEDAR SPRINGS 2-0: Red Hawks off to a strong start this season but face a massive test this Friday against Grand Rapids Catholic Central.

MT. PLEASANT 2-0: Off to a 2-0 start this season with a big test against Midland on tap this Friday.

MASON 2-0: Bulldogs looking strong after a pair of victories to start the season.

 

DIVISION 4

WILLIAMSTON 2-0: Hornets off to a 2-0 start that included a big rivalry win against Fowlerville.

FLINT POWERS 0-2: Opened the season facing the dominating one-two punch of powerhouses Davison and Lapeer.

BAY CITY GLENN 1-1: Bobcats split their first two games including a win against Bridgeport.

ALMA 0-2: Opened the season with a pair of tough losses against Freeland and Swan Valley.

  

DIVISION 5

LANSING CATHOLIC 2-0: Junior quarterback Joey Baker has looked outstanding in Catholic’s opening wins.

FRANKENMUTH 2-0: Posted impressive wins against Freeland and Swan Valley to open the season.

ESSEXVILLE-GARBER 2-0: Opened the season with a pair of wins. Face a powerful Frankenmuth squad this Friday.

PORTLAND 1-1: Rebounded nicely from opening-week loss to DeWitt. Take on defending D5 state champs Lansing Catholic this Friday.

SWAN VALLEY 1-1: Vikings posted a solid win against Alma before falling to Frankenmuth in second game of the season.

BULLOCK CREEK 1-1: Lancers displayed plenty of offensive skills in 39-34 loss to Ithaca.

FREELAND 1-1: Off to a 1-1 start with the lone loss coming against Frankenmuth.

BELDING 2-0: Off to a 2-0 start that included a solid win against Comstock Park in a defensive struggle.

 

DIVISION 6

MONTROSE 2-0: Rams off to a 2-0 start. Face rival New Lothrop this Friday in a big conference showdown.

CLARE 2-0: Has started the season as impressively as anyone winning first two games by a combined 90-0 margin.

MILLINGTON 2-0: Cardinals off to a strong 2-0 start.

DURAND 2-0: Railroaders averaging 35.5 points per game in first two games of the season.

 

DIVISION 7

PEWAMO-WESTPHALIA 2-0: Defending state champions in mid-season form as they won their first two games by a combined score of 105-0

NEW LOTHROP 2-0: Hornet offense is hitting on all cylinders averaging 48 points per game.

ITHACA 2-0: Senior quarterback Brady Hessbrook pilots an impressive Yellowjacket offense.

HEMLOCK 2-0: Undefeated Huskies face a tough week three opponent in Bullock Creek.

LAINGSBURG 1-1: Rebounded from a tough opening-week loss to Pewamo-Westphalia win an impressive offensive performance.

ST. CHARLES 2-0: Off to a strong start this season.

 

DIVISION 8

BEAL CITY 2-0: Tied for the top spot in a competitive Highland Conference.

FOWLER 2-0: Off to a 2-0 start with a tough week three matchup against Saranac this Friday.

BRECKENRIDGE 1-1: Lone loss came against Reading in a rematch of 2018 D8 state title game.

SAGINAW NOUVEL 1-1: Offense looked strong in win against MLS.

SARANAC 1-1: Quarterback Parker Edwards provides plenty of offense passing and running.
