HSSS FOOTBALL RANKINGS

Following are rankings of high school football teams in the High School Sports Scene Magazine primary coverage area.

 

DIVISION 1

ROCKFORD 2-0: Rams put 79 points on the board in first two games of the season against solid Cedar Springs and Sterling Heights Stevenson squads.

GRAND LEDGE 2-0: Comets showing an impressive offensive in wins against Coldwater and Jackson.

HOLT 1-1: Rebounded from opening week loss to Caledonia with impressive win against Mason.

 

DIVISION 2

EAST LANSING 1-1: Trojans tangled with two of the best from the Flint area with a win against Fenton and a loss to a loaded Grand Blanc squad.

MIDLAND DOW 2-0: Off to a solid start with a big test against Grand Blanc for week three.

SAGINAW HERITAGE 2-0: Hawks off to a 2-0 start for the first time since the 2011 season.

 

DIVISION 3

DEWITT 1-1: Fell to Portland in one of the classic games of the early season.

MOUNT PLEASANT 2-0: Oilers off to a strong start with impressive wins against a pair of West Michigan squads.

BAY CITY WESTERN 2-0: Lit up the scoreboard with a pair of 60-point outputs in the first two games of the season.

 

DIVISION 4

CHARLOTTE 2-0: Orioles scored over 40 points in first two wins of the season. Face rival Eaton Rapids this week.

WILLIAMSTON 1-1: Kick off the CAAC conference season with a big one against Mason.

BAY CITY GLENN 2-0: Scored 89 points in first two games of the season. Tangle with Alma this week.

 

DIVISION 5

PORTLAND 2-0: Turned in one of the biggest statement wins of the early season with upset or defending D3 state champs DeWitt.

LANSING CATHOLIC 2-0: Off to a 2-0 start this season with one of the top quarterbacks in the area in Joey Baker.

FRANKENMUTH 2-0: Division 5 state finalist last season is picking up where it left off.

ESSEXVILLE-GARBER 2-0: Dukes are putting it all together this season with strong efforts on both sides of the line.

FREELAND 2-0: Opened the season with a pair of impressive wins against Clare and Alma.

BULLOCK CREEK 2-0: Potent Lancer offense put up 89 points in first two wins of the season.  

GLADWIN 2-0: Flying G’s have scored 132 points while pitching two shutouts in first two games of season. Face undefeated Harrison this week.

 

DIVISION 6

MONTROSE 2-0: Ram offense is picking up where it left off with new starters quickly adapting.

MILLINGTON 2-0: Veteran Cardinal squad looking strong with a 2-0 start.

CHESANING 2-0: Off to a 2-0 start with wins against Bridgeport and Mt. Morris.

CLARE 1-1: One of several outstanding teams in a loaded Jack Pine Conference.

 

DIVISION 7

PEWAMO-WESTPHALIA 2-0: Pirates again one of the premier Division 7 teams in the state this season.

NEW LOTHROP 1-1: Bounced back from a tough opening-week loss against Jackson Lumen Christi with a big win in week two.

SAINT LOUIS 2-0: Off to a strong start this season after posting impressive wins against West Michigan teams Hesperia and Grandville Calvin Christian.

 

DIVISION 8

CARSON CITY-CRYSTAL 2-0: Eagles looking strong with wins against Fowler and Morley-Stanwood to open the season.

BEAL CITY 1-1: Bounced back from tough one-point defeat against a quality Ravenna team in week one.

BRECKENRIDGE 1-1: Turned in solid effort against MLS to even record at 1-1.

SAGINAW NOUVEL 1-1: Split first two games of the season with the loss coming against a powerful Millington squad.
